the mamma Mia movie timeline

mamma mia is one of the most popular shows on Broadway and is a family inspired show. The musical included some songs that were not used in the first movie a lot of them have different characters that sing the same songs over 2 of the songs were used in the films sequel. there is a possibility that the musical may get a movie series instead of just one stand alone film. The idea for the movie was based on the songs of a popular 1970's group ABBA and with all of their hits there's a lot of possibilities of future movies in the mamma mia timeline. the movies star Hollywood's most popular stars like Amanda seyfried as Sophie Meryl Streep as the mother Donna James Bond actor pierce brosnan popular old English actor Colin firth and avenger actor stellan skarsgard as the 3 dads Sam Carmichael harry bright and Bill Anderson Dominic cooper who played iron man's farther Howard plays Sophie's fiancee sky rymand golden girl Christine barinski and harry potter actress Julie Walters as the dynamos Rosie and Tanya the sequel stars Jeremy Irvine Josh Dylan Hugh Skinner Cinderella's lily James Alexa Davies and Jessica Kennan Wynn as the young versions of Sam Harry Bill Donna Rosie and Tanya. the sequel followed the events of Donna meeting Sam Bill and Harry and the events leading to the birth of Sophie it overlaps with the same thing happening to Sophie in the present day. the sequel's present day exceptions of Donna's death and sky in new York city possibly getting a job in the hotel business and the appearance of Donna's famous mother Ruby committing to being a grandmother to Sophie rekindling her long lost love with Fernando Cienfuegos the manager of hotel Bella Donna even Harry and bill supposedly not coming to the opening of the hotel due to bill getting the greatest swede award in his hometown of Stockholm Sweden and harry doing a business deal in Tokyo Japan. Ruby Sheridan Donna's mother is played by Cher the famed goddess of pop who is Launching her comeback to music with Dancing queen an Abba cover album that was inspiration of her appearance in mamma mia she is currently on her here we go again tour ending this year on the 19th of December. the first movie teases a backstory on where Sophie and sky went when the movie ended with them sailing off on their just got married boat they could have went to new york which would explain how sky got there in the first place Sophie may have stayed there for a while before sailing back to the island to rebuild villa Donna to hotel Bella Donna before her mother died in 2004. originally in the musical Bill's last name was Austin but when the news of mamma mia becoming a movie bill's last name changed to Anderson. the future of the film series is being quite as of right now but there is talk of a 3rd movie and rumored to have a major death since the mamma mia here we go again came out the sequel ended with Sophie christening her first child Donny there is no word on how that name came to be since there was no mention at all of Sophie mentioning of what the name of her child was. Ok now i'm going to take you on a journey i will be posting a timeline of the movie of all the events that had happend in chronological order including the birthdays of our favorite characters.

                                               

the first character who was born i feel was Bill's great aunt Sofia i'm guessing she was born in the year of 1929 and that she seem's to be in her 60's it was her that mentioned to a young Sam Carmichael that Donna was with someone on a boat but she did not mention that someone was her great nephew bill when this happpend Sam who had left his then girlfriend Lorraine went back to her due to this news. Bill never asked what his aunt was doing with the Anderson's family money but what we know so far is that she lent Donna some of the family money to turn her farm house into a hotel as we now know it as villa Donna from the first movie. it was revealed that Sofia was the one who helped Donna give birth to her daughter Sophia Sophie Sheridan and that she was the namesake of the child for that reason.

                                                

the 2nd character who was born i think was Fernando Cienfuegos we dont know much about him but it is known that he is an old lover of ruby's and that they met in 1959 in mexico there was no mention of him in the first movie but was referenced by Donna herself that he was never in the picture which would explain the possibility of him being Donna's farther. i think he must have been born in 1939 and looks to be in his 60's also.

                                                

the 3rd character born was Alma Anderson we dont know anything at all about her but we know that she is the mother of Bill and Kurt i'm thinking she is 64 years old since there is no year mentioned

                                                   

                                          

the 4th character i feel was born is Donna's mother Ruby she is referenced in the first movie a lot being seen as a bad person who hurt Donna the most due to possibly her religious beliefs she had disowned her when she found out that Donna was pregnant with Sophie. she is known to be quite a famous singer and lives in Las Vegas Nevada due to her wanting to commit to being a grandmother reunited with her lost love Fernando who she met in mexico and possibly could be the farther of their daughter Donna. i'm thinking that ruby was born in 1934 and is 62 years old and that her and Fernando were born 8 days apart from each other.

                                              

i think right after ruby was born Alma gave birth to her first born Kurt Bill's identical twin brother bill told him that he was going back to Greece to be with his family and to take his place for his acceptance speech at the best swede ever awards he ends up telling the goat story which bill was hesitant that he might tell. the mother Alma was revealed to know about this plan on him and Kurt switching places.

                                                                             

                                        

after Kurt was born came his twin brother Bill when he was young he was a playboy towards Donna when they met. he took part in a upcoming sailing race and owns his own boat i guess you can say that's how bill took her to the little island as mentioned in her diary. Bill said he hasn't heard from Donna for 20 years and were guessing that their last moment together was on his boat after he turned up at the bar when Donna and the dynamos were performing at the cafe. it was revealed that Rosie actually had a crush on bill when they were young and yet the creators never thought of mentioning Rosie's crush in the first movie when they were all grown up. Bill not only got an award of being the best swede ever but also was an adventure and writer. he met Donna when she was trying to catch the ferry to kalokari and offered her a ride on his boat to the island. Bill eventually fell in love with and dated Rosie which was want she wanted when she first met him. his great aunt Sofia did not mention his name when she spotted Sam trying to find Donna to tell her he loves her.   

                                

after bill was born Harry came on November 3rd 1955 after he met Donna at a hotel in Paris when she was checking in they had dinner together and ended up in bed at this time that was how Harry mentioned he was spontaneous back when he was young there was no evidence at all in this movie where Harry gave her his Johnny Rotten t shirt and guitar. when she left Paris she left him a very kind note saying goodbye so he followed her on a train he was to late to reach her since she already met bill and left to the island. there is no way that Harry could be Sophie's farther since it is referenced and maybe already confirmed that Harry is a gay man and that he never knew that he was gay when he was a teenager.

                                          

Lazaro's is Sofia's son making him one of Bill's first cousins and is the owner of the cafe his mother works at on the mainland of kalokari mainly because no other place would let his band play. nothing much is known about him but we do know that he did attend the christening of Donna's baby daughter Sophie and we do know he did show up to the grand opening of hotel Bella Donna i'm guessing he was the first one to know about Sophie's pregnancy and told ruby that she is the great grandmother of Sophie's baby son. i'm thinking he's in his 40's also but were not sure what year he was born in. 

                                       

ruby and Fernando had met in mexico in the year of 1959 there are no specific details about their relationship then but one thing to know for sure is that the year 1959 is significant because that would give them enough time to marry and given birth to Donna a year after referencing Fernando as the possible farther to Donna. 

                                                                          

                                 

        

Donna was born April 10th 1960 she was 40 in the first movie and died at age 44 in the 5 year time gap. Donna was a free spirited girl to everyone she met. Being the daughter of a famous singer had it's perks and she formed her own band at the age of 20. She had graduated from Oxford University and made friends. 2 of which were Rosie Mulligan and Tanya Chesham Leigh whom were the back ground singers in a group they called Donna & the dynamos halfway through their college years. Donna ended up meeting 3 men Sam Bill and Harry she met Sam in a rainstorm asking for help when she discovered a scared horse in a farmhouse, she met bill trying to catch a ferry to the island and agreed to sail her there on his boat and lastly she met harry first in Paris by going out for lunch together. it was referenced that the dynamo's song Super Trouper was in fact a song that Donna had wrote about her relationship with Sam but it was revealed that it also belonged to Bill. Sam had a nickname for Donna which he called her the dancing queen. no one knows who Sophie's farther is but we do know that Sam Bill and Harry are the 3 potential candidates which harry can be voted out of the running due to him being gay. another thing we dont know is Donna's cause of death we do know it was not a case of old age since she was 44 at the time but could have been victim to an unknown diagnosed disease or fell into a fatal or accidental sickness.        

                       

Rosie Mulligan is one of Donna's best friends from Oxford University and is a backup singer for Donna & the Dynamos when she was a teenager she had an obsessive crush on Bill which was never addressed in the first movie nothing much is known about Rosie but we do know that through the years she became an activist and a cook which was revealed in the first movie showing us a cover of one of her cookbooks. i think Rosie is 40 years old in the first movie and was born January 10th 1960 in the 2nd movie she is 45 and got back together with bill due to a brief break up over another woman she asked him about her which he thought at the time that they should just be friends. 

 

Tanya Chesham Leigh is the last of the ladies in Donna & the dynamos and makes up the last spot of the backup singers for the group we know that she is a very rich woman due to the latest style trends that she enjoys so much we even know that she is a heavy cocktail and wine drinker due to always having a glass of wine in hand throughout the entire first movie. it is revealed that she got married and divorced 3 times with over 3 men she even referenced to harry in the first movie that her farther may have disowned her when she got married for the 3rd time. it was also briefly mentioned that she may have had a crush on Sam at first glance not knowing that it was the same Sam that Donna had mentioned had a fiancee. i think Tanya was born march 5th 1960 she was 40 in the first movie and turned 45 in the sequel. 

 

this picture was found by Donna in Sam's notebook. This show's him with a women who may have been the same age as him were thinking this girl was his ex wife Lorraine which shows a engagement ring on her ring finger not much is known about Lorraine but we do know that she gave birth to Sam's  children which they had 2 boys. when he met Donna he unexpectedly fell in love with her she accidentally saw a picture of him with his new fiancee and asked him to leave. due to originally saying no because of Donna he came back to the island looking for her to tell her how he felt. Bill's great aunt Sofia had told him that Donna was with someone else and that she left on a boat not saying the name of that person. no one know's when Lorraine was born but i'm thinking that she is now 47 years old in the present day.

Sam Carmichael was the last person that Donna had met helping her with a scared horse during a bad rain storm he fell in love with her initially saying no to his previous engagement to his fiancee Lorraine wanting to tell Donna his true feelings resulted in him and Lorraine getting divorced and ended up with Donna in the end. Sam mentioned that everything was lined up for him with marriage being one of the them he eventually had 2 kids with his ex wife. he got back with Donna a few years after on her daughter's Sophie's wedding day. Sophie had no idea who her farther was thinking that she would recognize him right away and he would walk her down the aisle which was a secret to surprise her mother but everything goes wrong when Donna ends up finding out a lot earlier then expected. Donna and Sam end up being the ones getting married since Sophie calls off the wedding due to the fact that they wanted to get off the island to explore the world it was when Donna had died he always called her the Dancing Queen. i'm thinking Sam was born on July 1st 1961 he was 40 in the first movie and also turned 45 in the sequel. he also has a job as a architect.

Sam and Lorraine had over 2 son's no one knows anything about them or even how old they are the one thing we do know about them is that Sam hopes to bring them to kalokari for a visit someday. no one even knows when they were born but we do know that they may get introduced in future sequels.

       

Sophia Sophie Sheridan is the only daughter of Donna's and possibly Harry Sam or Bill's she fell in love with her Boyfriend Sky Rymand he proposed to her and the first movie focuses on the wedding. Sam thinks that she rushed in to marriage to soon but she was clearly to excited and continued downward. she was 20 in the first movie and and 25 when she got pregnant with her own son. when she was quite young she always had a dream of being part of Donna & the dynamos her wish eventually came true in the sequel. no one knows much about her past life but we do know that she lived up to her mother's legacy by rebuilding Villa Donna into Hotel Bella Donna with the help from Fernando Cienfuegos the Manager of the hotel. she is hesitant on leaving everything she has done on the island dedicating to much of her time to her mother since her death. Sophie was born may 4th 1980 the sequel's flashbacks follows the events leading up to her birth Sofia was the one who helped  with her delivery and was named named after her for that reason. Sofia lent some of her share of the family money to build the Villa Sophie eventually helped her mother take care of it thinking that Donna could not do it by herself. Donna had kept a pink diary which Sophie found out was the diary she kept when she was pregnant with her. it was her birth that caused Donna being disowned by her own mother.

 

Sky Rymand was Sophie's boyfriend and later fiancee they got married in the first movie but no one knows if they actually went through with it or not. Sophie later gets pregnant with his child. they explored the world when they sailed off at the end of the first movie. Sky ended up in new York city for a job in the Hotel business but gave it up when he found out about Sophie's pregnancy he even helped fly her grandma ruby in from Las Vegas Nevada. due to the fact he wanted to say yes to the job offer Sophie was hesitant on leaving behind her mother's legacy then to be with him in new York but it Dosent work and Sky remains back in kalokari due to finding out that their is a baby on the way. Sky is from England before he had met Sophie and moved to Greece to live closer to his girlfriend at the time. he is a web designer for villa Donna to attract more people to make more money off of it. sky was born October 25th 1980 he was 21 in the first movie and 26 in the sequel

    

the last one born was Donny Sheridan he was born 5 months after the grand opening of hotel Bella Donna. Rosie had rekindled her relationship with bill and referenced a love interest for Tanya in the form of Fernando's brother Rafael and Fernando himself is back with his former lover Ruby who he met in mexico in the year 1959. we have no idea on how the name Donny came to be since no character mentioned that was the name of the child throughout the movie. the entire sequel focused on Sophie going through the same thing that happend to her mother.
